Polar Music Prize: paying tribute to Pink Floyd

by bhatnaturally on October 6, 2008

Amidst the sea of ads, TV spots, hoardings and ambient ideas doing the rounds of ad blogs every day, some creatives literally stand out. They do so with simplicity of message, arresting visuals and copy. Here is one such, created by Sweden’s Channel 4 to promote the screening of the Polar Music Prize. The prize founded in 1989 by the late Stig ”Stikkan” Anderson, the publisher, lyricist and manager of ABBA and takes the name from his record label. Past winners include Ravi Shankar, Bob Dylan and B B King.

This year’s winners were Pink Floyd and American soprano Renee Fleming. The ads obviously played up Pink Floyd and cleverly used the iconic album covers of the band as a visual hook.

What I liked about the ads was that they immediately ‘connected’ with music fans in general and Pink Floyd fans in particular without being verbose.
